Accessibility

Standby pages people in the middle of the night. It has to work for everybody on the rota, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard, larger text or reduced motion.

What we aim for

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, where they apply, across this website, the Standby web console and the Standby app. This is the goal we design and test against, not a certification or a statement of full conformance.

What's in place

  • We check text and control contrast against the WCAG guidance, and fix problems we find in testing.
  • Pages use headings, landmarks and labeled controls, and each page starts with a "Skip to content" link. We keep testing with assistive technology.
  • The main website and console tasks are designed to work with a keyboard, with the focused control outlined. If something doesn't, please tell us.
  • Animations are designed to stop when your device asks for reduced motion.
  • We aim never to rely on color alone for essential information. The escalation explorer on the home page describes each step in words as well as color, and announces the outcome to screen readers.
  • Layouts are designed to reflow at phone widths without sideways scrolling.
  • In the app, on-call alerts use the phone's own notifications, sounds and vibration, so they follow the accessibility settings people already rely on, as each device and its settings allow.

What we know falls short

  • We haven't yet had an independent accessibility audit, and we don't yet publish a VPAT (Accessibility Conformance Report). If your procurement process needs one, tell us; it's on our list.
  • We build to the guidelines and check with automated tests, but we haven't yet tested systematically with screen readers such as VoiceOver, TalkBack, JAWS or NVDA. That's where problems are most likely to have slipped through.
  • We'll test the time-critical steps — acknowledging an incident and following an escalation — with common screen readers first, and publish what we find.

Tell us

If something on this site, in the console or in the app is hard to use, email support@contact-iq.com with the page or screen and what happened. We'll reply within two business days.
