Help › Being on call
Notifications
What reaches you, what it says, and making sure urgent ones get through.
What a notification says
By default, Standby's notifications never show your queue names or figures on a locked phone; they say what kind of thing happened and ask you to open Standby. For example:
- Something needs your attention. Open Standby to see it.
- Still nobody has acknowledged this. Open Standby to see it.
- Standby — practice drill: Nothing is wrong. Acknowledge it to record that the chain reached you.
- A change you made reverts in 5 minutes. Open Standby to extend it.
Your admin can choose to include the queue and rule in notifications, for everyone in the workspace.
Making sure urgent ones get through
Standby uses two Android notification channels: Urgent incidents, for pages that should reach you at any hour, and Incidents. To let urgent pages through Do Not Disturb:
- Open your phone's Settings → Apps → Standby → Notifications.
- Open Urgent incidents and allow it to override Do Not Disturb.
- Under Battery, set Standby to Unrestricted (wording varies by phone), so Android doesn't hold its notifications back to save power.
Phone calls are separate from notifications. If a rule calls you, the call comes from your workspace's paging number, and Do Not Disturb silences it unless you let that number through. See Let Standby's calls through Do Not Disturb.
Quiet hours
Your admin can set quiet hours for you, such as 10 pm to 7 am in your timezone. During them, most pages arrive as quiet notifications instead of calls; pages for rules set to reach someone at any hour still call, and still come through as urgent.
Choosing what reaches you
Settings → Notifications. Each switch saves as you flip it.
- Alerts that call at any hour are always on.
- Other alerts, On-call changes, Actions by colleagues and Contact-IQ support access can be turned off.
Turning one off stops the notification, not the record: everything still appears in the app.
