Help › Being on call
Enroll your phone
Get notifications, and approve queue changes with your fingerprint or face.
Enrolling makes this phone yours in Standby. It's what notifications are sent to, and it's how you approve a change to a queue: with a fingerprint or face check that proves who is holding the phone right now.
- Make sure your phone has a fingerprint or face unlock set up.
- In Standby, go to Settings → Devices.
- Under This phone, tap Enroll this phone.
- Confirm it's yours. If this is your first phone, Standby emails a 6-digit code to the address you were invited with: enter it in the app. If you already have a phone enrolled, approve the new one there instead: open Standby on it, go to Devices, and tap Approve next to the new phone. Lost the other phone? Tap email me a code.
- When asked, allow notifications.
- Let Standby's calls through Do Not Disturb (below).
This phone should now show Enrolled, and Notifications should show On. You'll get an email saying a phone was added to your account; if that ever arrives when you didn't add one, use its Not me link straight away.
Why the extra step? Without it, anybody who learned your password could enroll a phone of their own and approve changes to your queues. The code, or your other phone, proves the new one is really yours.
Let Standby's calls through Do Not Disturb
When you're on call, Standby may ring you. It calls from your workspace's paging number, shown in the app under Devices → Calls from Standby. If your phone is on Do Not Disturb or a Focus, that call is silenced unless you let the number through:
- iPhone: save the number as a contact named Standby. Open the contact, tap Ringtone, and turn on Emergency Bypass. Its calls then ring even on Do Not Disturb or silent.
- Android: save the number as a contact named Standby and star it. Then in Settings, open Do Not Disturb (under Notifications or Sound) → Calls, and allow calls from starred contacts. The wording varies by phone.
Then ask your admin to book a practice drill while your phone is on Do Not Disturb, to check it rings.
A new phone, or a lost one
- New phone: sign in and enroll it, approve it on your old phone (or use the emailed code), then revoke the old one.
- Lost phone: on any other enrolled device, open Devices and tap Revoke next to it. It stops being able to approve anything straight away.
- Changed your fingerprints or face unlock, or reinstalled the app? Enroll again; the app will tell you.
