Help › Installing Standby

Update the stack

Change a setting, move to a new version, or recover admin access.

Update the stack in CloudFormation as you would any other: Update, then keep the current template or use a new one Contact-IQ gives you.

  • Keep every value under "Provided by Standby" as it is (Use existing value). An update authenticates with one of them.
  • Change only what you mean to: the paging number, FlowsCheckHoursOfOperation, or AdminEmail.

An update re-registers the workspace and re-checks that Standby can read your instance. Your workspace code, people, rotations, rules, plan and sign-in settings are all kept.

Recovering admin access

If nobody can manage users any more, set AdminEmail to someone who should, and update the stack. That person is made an admin, and emailed a temporary password if they're new. Contact-IQ support can't do this for you; it's deliberately yours.

New versions

Contact-IQ supports the current stack version and the two before it. When an update is available, admins see a notice on the console's Overview, with the template link to use; it becomes urgent if your version falls out of support. New permissions only ever arrive in a new version, which you choose to install.

  1. In CloudFormation, select the standby stack, then Update → Replace existing template, and paste the template link from the notice.
  2. Keep every parameter as it is, tick the IAM boxes, and update.
  3. From 1.4.7 the StackVersion and SandboxInstance parameters are gone; the template reports its own version. In the console they simply disappear. If you update from the command line, don't pass them.

Your installed version is the StandbyVersion output on the stack (1.4.4 and later).
